Heading to Miami Hack Week 2022? Don’t Forget These 3 Networking Tricks

Miami Hack Week brings together the brightest and best engineers from around the world for a unique hackathon. This guide will give you a few tips to make the most of your time in Miami.

Welcome to Miami… Hack Week 2022! Will Smith once said, “Everybody party all day, no work all play.” If you are headed to Miami Hack Week, it looks set to be just the right balance of tech, talent, and team building. If Will Smith was an engineer, he’d be in attendance.

What is Miami Hack Week?

Miami Hack Week brings together some of the most talented engineers in a range of cutting-edge fields for an immersive hackathon experience. You could find yourself developing something in fitness, fintech, machine learning, creator tech, Web3, NFTs, or crypto, to name a few!

The winning team walks away with $10,000 and a host of other prizes, whilst everyone else leaves with new friendships, a mind full of ideas, and who knows, maybe the next big thing in tech!

When is Miami Hack Week 2022?

Miami Hack Week runs from Sunday, January 23 to Saturday, January 29.

How to make the most out of Miami Hack Week?

With so much going on at the hackathon, it’s important to keep the main thing, the main thing but when you are not busy building something awesome, here are three things to keep in mind to maximize what you get out of the Hack Week.

1. Be open-minded.

It’s easy to arrive at a hacker house and have a fixed idea of what you want to achieve. Try to be less personal and more interpersonal. Collaboration is the name of the game and this will allow you to shift away from a fixed mindset that might limit what you and your teammates can achieve. Everyone works differently and if you are hoping to be in with a chance of winning that $10,000 grand prize, remember… teamwork makes the dream work.

2. Ask questions.

Questions drive thoughts, thoughts drive ideas and ideas drive action. (Need a place to start? Try out some of these networking icebreaker questions!) Be willing to admit when you don’t know something and ask questions to better understand things. There is no failure only learning at a hackathon so take every opportunity to sharpen your skills through being open to educating yourself. Oftentimes your questions will also help others learn, it’s a win-win! By remaining curious, sometimes that great idea can emerge at the most unexpected moment.

3. Network with everyone.

Miami Hack Week 2022 is a phenomenal opportunity to connect with some of the most talented, interesting, and forward-thinking engineers in the tech space. Don’t limit yourself by only networking with people in your own hacker house. Meeting people from other hacker houses is the perfect opportunity to develop networking skills,  build your network, and build meaningful connections with people who might be able to help you with your next great idea.

With that in mind, you need an easy way to seamlessly share who you are, what you do, and even your skillset. We recommend using a HiHello digital business card. HiHello is free to download and you include everything on your digital business card, from your contact details to your resume, your Github username to your Behance portfolio to showcase your digital work. (You could even have a custom link to your ETH address or NFT project!) Not sure what to include on your card? Here’s a list of what information to put on a business card.
